Scott's #5

Off to NYC we go, where we will find this next rock band. This band is one of many bands to be commonly credited as having influenced the development of heavy metal music in the 1970s.  Off of their debut 1970 album  Climbing!...

Scott's number 5 song is...
Mountian ~ For Yasgur's Farm

"Who am i but you and the sun
A sad reflection in everyone
Was it me who let you walk away
Were you the one
Or is it were the same

What are we in time going by
The simple story of a younger life
Happy dreams and somehow through the day
We havent come so far to lose our way"

Scott's #6

Back across the pond we go,  London to be exact. This is where we will find this rock guitarist and vocalist.  This next song is off of his second solo album, and it is by far his biggest hit.  The Title track off of that 1974 album...

Scott's number 6 song is...
Robin Thrower ~ Bridge of Sighs

"The sun don't shine
The moon don't move the tides,
To wash me clean
Sun don't shine
The moon don't move the tides,
To wash me clean
Why so unforgiving and why so cold
Been a long time crossing Bridge of Sighs
Cold wind blows
The Gods look down in anger,
On this poor child
Cold wind blows
And Gods look down in anger,
On this poor child
Why so unforgiving and why so cold
Been a long time crossing Bridge of Sighs"

Scott's #7

O Canada! This is where we will find this legendary singer/ songwriter, who surprisingly hasn't made a top ten yet.  He began performing as a solo artist in Canada in 1960, before moving to California in 1966, where he co-founded the band Buffalo Springfield along with Stephen Stills and Richie Furay, and later joined Crosby, Stills & Nash as a fourth member in 1969. He forged a successful and acclaimed solo career, releasing his first album in 1968; his career has since spanned over 40 years and 34 studio albums, with a continual and uncompromising exploration of musical styles. (from Wikipedia) Off of his 1974 album On The Beach...

Mike's number 7 song is...
Neil Young  ~ For The Turnstiles

"All the sailors
with their seasick mamas
Hear the sirens on the shore,
Singin' songs
for pimps with tailors
Who charge ten dollars
at the door.

You can really
learn a lot that way
It will change you
in the middle of the day.
Though your confidence
may be shattered,
It doesn't matter."

Scott's #8

Let's head to Spartanburg, South Carolina, (a city I used to live by)! This is where we will find this southern rock band.  They helped establish the Southern rock genre in the early 1970s.  Their name name does not refer to a band member, but rather a Spartanburg-area piano tuner.  Off of their 1975 album Searchin' for a Rainbow...

Scott's number 8 song is....
The Marshall Tucker Band ~ Can't You See

"Can't you see, oh, can't you see
What that woman, Lord, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see
What that woman, she been doin' to me

Can't you see, whoa, can't you see
What that woman, Lord, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, whoa, can't you see
What that woman, she been doin' to me

Can't you see (oh, she's such a crazy lady), can't you see
What that woman, she been doin' to me
Can't you see (Lord, I can't stand), can't you see
What that woman, she been doin' to me"

Mike's #9

Let's head to  Champaign Illinois, The Home of The University of Illinois. This is where we will find this next rock band A fun fact about this band is that the lead singer was actually entered the electrical engineering program at the University of Illinois.  Here is the title track off of their 1973 album...

Mike's number 9 song is...
R.E.O.  Speedwagon ~  Ridin' The Storm Out

"Ridin' the storm out, waitin' for the thaw out
On a full moon night in the Rocky Mountain winter.
My wine bottle's low, watching for the snow
I've been thinking lately of what I'm missing in the city.
And I'm not missing a thing
Watchin' the full moon crossing the range
Ridin' the storm out
Ridin' the storm out.

My lady's beside me, she's there to guide me.
She says that alone we've finally found home.
The wind outside is frightening,
but it's kinder than the lightning life in the city.
It's a hard life to live but it gives back what you give."

Scott's #10

It's time again for a new top ten! This one is from my boss Jim's best friend Scott.  Let's head to Dublin for this next legendary artist.  This rock band is still going strong, after starting back in 1976.
Off of their 1991 legendary album Achtung Baby...

Scott's number 10 song is...
U2 ~ One

"Is it getting better?
Or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you now?
You got someone to blame
You say...

One love
One life
When it's one need
In the night

One love
We get to share it
Leaves you baby if you
Don't care for it"

Mike's number 1 song is...
Eagles ~ Hotel California

"On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
"This could be Heaven or this could be Hell"
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (Such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year (Any time of year)
You can find it here"

Mike's #2

Back to England, where we will find this Legendary Band! That's all I'm going to say! Released as a single in 1968....

Mike's number 2 song is...
The Beatles ~ Hey Jude

"Hey Jude, don't make it bad.
Take a sad song and make it better.
Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.

Hey Jude, don't be afraid.
You were made to go out and get her.
The minute you let her under your skin,
Then you begin to make it better.

And anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain,
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders.
For well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder."

Mike's #3

Let's head back to Michigan, again.  This is where we will find the rock singer/songwriter.  He is making his third appearance in a top ten, with his third different song!  He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2012.  Off of his 1981 album Nine Tonight...

Bob Seger ~ Tryin' To Live My Life Without You

"Tryin' to live my life without you babe
It's the hardest thing I'll ever do
Tryin' to forget the love we once shared
It was the hardest burden I'll ever bear
I had the worst reputation in town
For chasing all the women around
I thought changin' my way of living was hard to do
But it's nothin' compared to the changes that you put me through"

Mike's #4

I guess we're staying in England, for this next rock singer/songwriter.  He was born born Reginald Kenneth Dwight, and received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II for "services to music and charitable services" in 1998.  If you don't know who this is yet. here is another hint, If you like Disney movies you more than likely heard one of his songs.  Off of his 1972 album Honky Chateau...

Mike's number 4 song is...
Sir Elton John ~ Mona LIsas and Mad Hatters

"While Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters
Sons of bankers, sons of lawyers
Turn around and say good morning to the night
For unless they see the sky
But they can't and that is why
They know not if it's dark outside or light

This Broadway's got
It's got a lot of songs to sing
If I knew the tunes I might join in
I'll go my way alone
Grow my own, my own seeds shall be sown in New York City"

Mike's #5

Back to Britian we go! This is where we will find this prog rock band.  Who's origanlly reconded under the name Daddy, before renaming themselves in the early 1970's.  This next song is the band's biggest chart hit in both the United States and their native United Kingdom, it is among their most widely recognised radio hits   Off of their 1979 Album Breakfast in America...

Mike's number 5 song is...
Supertramp ~ The Logical Song

"When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful, a miracle, it was beautiful, magical
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily, joyfully, playfully, watching me
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible, logical, responsible, practical
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable, clinical, intellectual, cynical
There are times when all the world's asleep
The questions run too deep for such a simple man
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd but please tell me who I am"

America ~ Sister Golden Hair

"Well I tried to make it Sunday, but I got so damn depressed
That I set my sights on Monday and I got myself undressed
I ain't ready for the altar but I do agree there's times
When a woman sure can be a friend of mine
Well, I keep on thinkin' 'bout you, Sister Golden Hair surprise
And I just can't live without you; can't you see it in my eyes?
I been one poor correspondent, and I been too, too hard to find
But it doesn't mean you ain't been on my mind"

Mike's #7

Let's head to Massachusetts shall we? This is where we will find this next rock band. This bands genre is considered by most to be hard rock, while combining elements of progressive rock into their music Their former singer Brad Delp was well known for his extended vocal ranges  Off of their 1976 self titled album...

Mike's Number 7 song is...
Boston ~ Hitch A Ride

"Day is night in New York City
Smoke,like water runs inside
Steel idle trees to pity
Every living thing that's died

Leave it all behind
Never change my mind
Gonna sail away
Sun lights another day
Freedom on my mind
Carry me away for the last time
Oh yeah"

'Cause one is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
One is the loneliest number, whoa-oh, worse than two"

Mike's #9

Back to New York we go! This is where we will find this singer/songwritter.  This next song is his sprawling, impressionistic ballad inspired partly by the deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J. P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) in a plane crash on 3 February 1959. If that didn't give it away, I don't know what would.  THis song released as a songle in 1971...

MIke's number 9 song is...
Don McLean ~ American Pie

"A long long time ago
I can still remember how
That music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
**The day the music died**
So
Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey in Rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die"

Mike's number 10 song is...
Chicago ~ 25 or 6 to 4

"Waiting for the break of day
Searching for something to say
Flashing lights against the sky
Giving up I close my eyes
Sitting cross-legged on the floor
25 or 6 to 4

Staring blindly into space
Getting up to splash my face
Wanting just to stay awake
Wondering how much I can take
Should I try to do some more
25 or 6 to 4"

Cameron's number 4 song is...
Classics IV ~ Spooky

"In the cool of the evening when everything is gettin' kinda groovy
I call you up and ask you if you like to go with me and see a movie
First you say no you got some plans for the night
And then you stop and say alright"

Love was kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you
