Seth's #4

We are heading someplace warm, how about Naples, Florida! This is where we will find this indie rock band.  This band was created by Chris Farren, Derek Perry, Casey Lee, and Sean Stevenson in 2005. Farren was in another band at the time, but he wanted to expand his creativity and write different music. All of the band members grew up in Naples and have known each other since they were about 14 years old. The members have been able to make the band a full time obligation by allowing for a relentless touring schedule. Stevenson gave up an opportunity to go to Berklee College of Music in Boston for film scoring. Off of their 2009 album It's Great To Be Alive...

Seth's number 4 song is...
Fake Problems ~ Heartless

"It was funny at first but now it's, getting old
the way you seem to reappear, when I start moving on
Well I heard you were at some parties, getting high with my friends
Okay, maybe it's kinda funny, you started smoking weed again

Nowadays I get up, around 8 or 9 'o clock
I've been real productive,
I've been writing songs,
and I've been singing a lot
Now I don't do half the stupid things I did behind your back
In fact since you have been away I've had no use for that

But I've come dangerously close,
to giving it all up
You know you were the only one
I didn't pretend to love"

Alkaline Trio ~ Dine, Dine My Darling

"Don't leave me alone,
I'm waiting for this to be,
The last thing that I say.
If I tried real good,
Then I probably could get a couple more days.
But the drugs are lame,
So I'm looking for you to be,
The very last thing I see,
Before I up and fly away.
I'm counting on you to help push me through
With something good to remember on my red letter days

Don't worry,
I only feel the good things.

So let's dine, dine, dine my darling
Let's have our last supper, as us, two lovers and we'll dance real sweet and slow.
And then kiss, kiss, kiss to the last clock tick
A final exhale when I'm done and you can keep my last breath floating in your lungs."

gonna ride this out,
My little black heart, breaks apart,
with your big mouth.

And I'm sick of my sickness
Don't touch me, you'll get this.
I'm useless, lazy, perverted,
and you hate me.

You can't save me,
You can't change me,
Well I'm waiting for my wakeup call,
And everything, everything's my fault"

Seth's #7

Back to Cali! Yet again we're in LA, this is where we will find this indie rock band.   They are a relatively new band, formed in 2006, yet their first album had a major effect on some famous people! On March 10, 2009, during a live radio broadcast with U2 at the Metro Chicago, host Shirley Manson of Garbage asked the band to name some of its favorite songs. Bassist Adam Clayton chose this band's first single as one of his selections, commenting that he felt he would be listening to their album the rest of the year. During its U2 360° Tour, U2 made a habit of playing a recording of the song in stadiums before taking the stage.  Here is the second single off of their self titled debut album...

Seth's number 7 song is...
The Airborne Toxic Event - Does This Mean You're Moving On?

"And the funny thing is, it has no end
I try to call you up, at 2am
In a crowded bar, your ringer tones
Grab my mind

I can see you through the phone,
The phone, the phone
And I'm wide awake at home
At home, at home
So I think I'll see my coquette
And hope you don't catch
The bourbon on my breath
My breath, my breath

Catch a cab outside on Seventh Street
And the cars fly through the Bowery
I come to your door and I hear a moan
Then another voice, so Christ, she's not alone
Alone, alone
And my heart sinks like a stone
A stone, a stone
And the tears won't even come
I feel so numb
So swept aside, so dumb
So dumb, so dumb"

Seth's #8

To the Lonestar state we go, Houston to be exact.  This is were we will find this rock band. The band was discovered by former Kid Rock manager Michael Rand performing at the Atchafalaya River Cafe. Off of their 2006 album Foiled...

Seth's number 8 song is...
Blue October ~ Into The Ocean .

"I want to swim away but don't know how
Sometimes it feels just like I'm falling in the ocean
Let the waves up take me down
Let the hurricane set in motion... yeah
Let the rain of what I feel right now...come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down

Now waking to the sun
I calculate what I had done
Like jumping from the bow (yeah)
Just to prove that I knew how (yeah)
It's midnight's late reminder of
The loss of her, the one I love
My will to quickly end it all
Set front row in my need to fall

Into the ocean, end it all"

Seth's number 9 song is...

Todd Snider ~ Carla

"An empty house is hard to bear
Lonesome's falling everywhere
Without you there's no light coming in
That lucky dog jumped the fence
Ain't seen him around here since
And I don't guess I ever will again
It didn't bother me any, I was good to that dog
And just like you I'm gonna have to learn to let him go

Leaving me was one thing Carla
Why'd you have to leave so slow?"

Seth's #10

Time to start a new top ten! This one is from my co-worker Seth. This Next artist is an English folk/punk singer-songwriter from MeonstokeWinchester, UK. Initially the vocalist of post-hardcore band Million Dead, He embarked upon a primarily acoustic-based solo career following the band's split in 2005. (Wikipedia)  Making his second appearance in a top ten, Off of his 2011 album England Keep My Bones...

Seth's number 10 song is...
Frank Turner ~ If Ever I Stray  .

"Forgive me someone, for I have sinned
And I know not where I should begin
Some days it feels like you just can't win
No matter what you do or say.

Things didn't kill me but I don't feel stronger
Life is short but it feels much longer
You've lost that drive, you've lost that hunger
To pull yourself through the day.

But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow
And then drag me on back to shore!

'Cos love is free and life is cheap
As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat
I can't ask for anything more

Come on everybody sing it 1, 2, 3, 4"

Sorry for the Interruption (27)

Sorry for the interruption but the TTMB would like to bring you something a little different.  This time I am featuring three different bands with one thing in common.  Without Googling it can you tell me what it is? If you know leave it in a comment below!

George's #2

More rock from the UK!  And we have an other former Beatle. What else needs to be said about this artist?
Off of his 1971 album  Imagine,,,

George's number 2 song is...
John Lennon ~ Gimme Some Truth

"I'm sick and tired of hearing things
From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocrites
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth
I've had enough of reading things
By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth
No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna Mother Hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope
Money for dope
Money for rope
No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna Mother Hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of soap
Money for dope"

George's #3

It goes without saying that we are staying in the UK.   This song was written during the sessions recording The Beatles' White Album but was rejected for that album. Now which Beatle was is?  Off of his 1970 album All Things Must Pass...

George's number 3 song is...
George Harrison ~ Isn't It a Pity

"Isn't it a pity
Isn't it a shame
How we break each other's hearts
And cause each other pain
How we take each other's love
Without thinking anymore
Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity

Some things take so long
But how do i explain
When not too many people
Can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears
Your eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Now, isn't it a pity

Isn't it a pity, (oh-o)
Now, isn't is a shame
How we break each other's hearts
And cause each other pain
How we take each other's love
Without thinking anymore
Forgetting to give back
Now, isn't it a pity"

George's #4

One of the best band to come from England, if not of all time! They are celebrating their 20th year together! What else needs to be said about these legends? Off of their 1967 album Between The Buttons...

George's number 4 song is...
The Rolling Stones ~ Ruby Tuesday

"He would never say where she came from
Yesterday don't matter when it's gone
While the sun is bright
Or in the darkest night
No one knows
She comes and goes
Goodbye, Ruby Tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you smile with every new day
Still I'm gonna miss you...
Don't question why she needs to be so free
She'll tell you it's the only way to be
She just can't be chained
To a life where nothing's gained
And nothing's lost
At such a cost
There's no time to lose, I heard her say
Catch your dreams before they slip away"

George's #5

We're still in the UK, but we're in Scotland now.  This is where we will find our next artist. Originally a folk artist in 1965, He quickly developed an eclectic and distinctive style that blended folk, jazzpoppsychedelia, and world music (notably calypso). A fun fact about this next song is that he had originally hoped Jimi Hendrix would play on the song, but he was unavailable.  This is the title track of his 1968 album...

George's number 5 song is...
Donovan ~ Hurdy Gurdy Man

"Thrown like a star in my vast sleep
I open my eyes to take a peep
To find that I was by the sea
Gazing with tranquillity.
'Twas then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Came singing songs of love,
Then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man
Came singing songs of love.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang.
Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy, gurdy he sang."

George's #6

Still not leaving the UK! They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990, their first year of eligibility; the display describes them as "Prime contenders, in the minds of many, for the title of World's Greatest Rock Band." TIME magazine wrote in 1979 that "No other group has ever pushed rock so far, or asked so much from it." Rolling Stone magazine wrote: "Along with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, They complete the holy trinity of British rock.! (from Wikipedia) Off of their 1973 album Quadrophenia, which is their second rock opera...

George's number 6 song is...
The Who  Sea and Sand

"Here by the sea and sand
Nothing ever goes as planned,
I just couldn't face going home
It was just a drag on my own.
They finally threw me out
My mother got drunk on stout,
My dad couldn't stand on two feet,
As he lectured about morality.
Now I guess the families complete,
With me hanging round on the street
Or here on the beach.

The girl I love
Is a perfect dresser,
Wears every fashion
Gets it to the tee.
Heavens above,
I got to match her
She knows just how
She wants her man to be
Leave it to me."

George's #7

Still staying in the UK, with one of, if not the biggest band to come from here! THere is nothing more to say about these guys so... Off of their 1968 "White Album"...

George's number 7 song is...
The Beatles ~ Dear Prudence

"Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day
The sun is up, the sky is blue
It's beautiful and so are you
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?

Dear Prudence, open up your eyes
Dear Prudence, see the sunny skies
The wind is low, the birds will sing
That you are part of everything
Dear Prudence, won't you open up your eyes?

Look around round
Look around round round
Look around

Dear Prudence, let me see you smile
Dear Prudence, like a little child
The clouds will be a daisy chain
So let me see you smile again
Dear Prudence, won't you let me see you smile?

Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day
The sun is up, the sky is blue
It's beautiful and so are you
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?"

George's #8

I don't think we are going to travel out of the UK for this list.  This next band formed in 1967 by singer/songwriter and guitarist Marc BolanAfter earning success in the early and mid-1970s, the band broke up after Bolan was killed in a 1977 car accident. On the recommendation of Elton John, this album was recorded outside of Paris at Château d'Hérouville to avoid British taxing laws. Off of their 1972 album The Slider...

George's number 8 song is...
T. Rex ~ Ballrooms of Mars

"You gonna look fine
Be primed for dancing
You're gonna trip and glide
All on the trembling plane
Your diamond hands
Will be stacked with roses
And wind and cars
And people of the past

I'll call you thing
Just when the moon sings
And place your face in stone
Upon the hill of stars
And gripped in the arms
Of the changeless madman
We'll dance our lives away
In the Ballrooms of Mars"

George's #9

I guess we are staying in the UK! This is where we will find this English musician, actor, record producer and arranger. His real name is David Robert Jones.  A major figure for over four decades in the world of popular music,  He is widely regarded as an innovator, particularly for his work in the 1970s. He is known for his distinctive voice as well as the intellectual depth and considerable eclecticism of his work.  This funny thing is I am posting this on his 66th birthday!  Off of his 1971 album Hunky Dory...

George's number 9 song is...
David Bowie ~ Oh! You Pretty Things   .

"Oh You Pretty Things
Don't you know you're driving your
Mamas and Papas insane
Oh You Pretty Things
Don't you know you're driving your
Mamas and Papas insane
Let me make it plain
([second time:] Let me say it again)
You gotta make way
for the Homo Superior"

George's #10

FINALLY a new top ten! This one is from my boss Jim's George.

Back to England,  Birmingham, to be exact, were one of the leading British rock bands of the 1960s. They scored nine Top 20 UK singles in five years, but were among the most popular British bands not to find any success in the United States  This next song is the title track off of their 1971 album...

George's number 10 song is...
The Move ~ Message From the Country

"Here the roar a coming
Here the roar a comingHere the roar a coming now

Got news for your motherGot news for your motherGot news for your mother tonight

Sister, I have touched the evergreenAnd I promise that it's life should go unseenNow it saves the birds upon the fireAnd the message from the country rises higher

Hear the birdie callingHear the birdie callingHear the birdie calling for life

Message from the countryMessage from the countryMessage from the country rising high

Sister, I have touched the evergreenAnd I promise that it's life should go unseenNow it saves the birds upon the fireAnd the message from the country rises higher"
