Careron's #5

Down to New Orleans we go, well let's think about heading down there.  It might be a little rainy down there right now. This next artist is an  African American pop/R&B singer. He was actually a quite successful boxer before he started his music career. Released as a single in 1966...

Cameron's number 5 song is...
Lee Dorsey ~ Workin' in a Coal Mine

"Workin' in a coal mine, goin' down, down, down
Workin' in a coal mine, whoop, about to slip down
Workin' in a coal mine, goin' down, down, down
Workin' in a coal mine, whoops, about to slip down
Five o'clock in the mornin', I'm all ready up and gone
Lord I am so tired, how long can this go on?
That I'm workin' in a coal mine, goin' down, down, down
Workin' in a coal mine, whoops, about to slip down
Workin' in a coal mine, goin' down, down, down
Workin' in a coal mine, whoops, about to slip down
'Cause I make all the money, hauling coal by the ton
But when Saturday goes around I'm too tired for havin' fun (Too tired for having…)
I' just workin' in a coal mine, goin' down, down, down
Workin' in a coal mine, whoop, about to slip down
Workin' in a coal mine, goin' down, down, down
Workin' in a coal mine, whoops, about to slip down"

Cameron's #8

Let's head to Memphis, Tennessee! There is not much to say about this next band, other than the fact that they were a one hit wonder.  Yes this next song is that one hit.  The spoken intro for this song dates to the 1947 novelty recording "Cigareetes, Whuskey and Wild, Wild Women" by Red Ingle and His Natural Seven.  Off of their 1965 album with the some name...

Cameron's number 8 song is...
The Hombres ~ Let it out (Let it All Hang Out)

"No parkin' by the sewer sign
Hot dog, my razors broke
Water drippin' up the spout
But I dont care, let it all hang out
Hangin' from a pine tree by my knees
Sun is shinin' through the shade
Nobody knows what its all about
It's too much, man, let it all hang out"

Cameron's #9

Let's head back to England shall we, it seems to be where all the good rock bands are from.  They were known for their gritty, bluesy sound and deep-voiced front-man.  I am sure that you have heard a song by these guys but you might not have known it.  This song was released as a single in 1965...

Cameron's number 9 song is...
The Animals ~ It's My Life

"Hear what I say, I'm gonna ride that serpent
No more time spent sweatin' rent
Hear my command, I'm breakin' loose, 'cause I ain't no use
Holdin' me down, girl stick around

And baby, remember
It's my life and I'll do what I want
It's my mind and I'll think like I want
Show me I'm wrong, hurt me sometime
But some day I'll treat you real fine
I'll treat you so fine, dear, you're so real"

Cameron's #10

It's that time again, time for yet another top ten! This one is from my co-worker Cameron. That being said, let head to Minnesota, Duluth to be exact.  This is where we will find our next artist, who has been an influential figure in popular music and culture for over five decades.  A singer/ songwriter who's unique voice will give them away.  Off of his 1965 album Highway 61 Revisited...

Cameron's number 10 song is...
Bob Dylan ~ Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues

"When you're lost in the rain in Juarez
And it's Eastertime too
And your gravity fails
And negativity don't pull you through
Don't put on any airs
When you're down on Rue Morgue Avenue
They got some hungry women there
And they really make a mess outa you."

Sorry for the Interruption (20) but...

Sorry for the Interruption but the TTMB would like to bring you some artist you should know.  This time I decided to pick some of my favorite  lesser known Rock/ Alternative bands.

This first artist is an American singer/songwriter,  this trck is by far his most well know song, yet not to many people have heard it.
Mike Doughtry ~ Looking at the World From the Bottom of a Well (2005)

This second track is by a Canadian post grunge band.  (Can anyone tell me what post grunge means?)

Thornley ~ So Far So Good (2004)

This third track is by an American alternative band, I'll be honest this song is probably in my top twenty.

Sponge ~ Plowed (1994)

Look for a new top ten starting on Sunday!

Off the coast and I'm headed nowhere
She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly"

Joe's #2

Let's head to England, where we will find this legendary rock band.  They have been around since 1965, and have produced numerous memorable hits. et they are only making their second appearance in a top ten! This is the title track off of their 1975 album...

Joe's number 2 song is...
Pink Floyd ~ Wish You Were Here

"So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here"

Joe's #3

We are heading from sunny California to East Lansing, Michigan? Why yer we are because this is where we will find this post-grunge band.  While they are well known in their home state of Michigan, I wold put these guys in the one hit wonder category.  This dark and depressing song is off of their 1996 album Villains...

Joe's number 3 song is...
The Verve Pipe ~ Freshman

"Can't be held responsible
She was touchin' her face
I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place
For the life of me
I can not remember
What made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise
For the life of me
I can not believe we'd ever die
For these sins
We were merely freshmen"

Joe's number 4 song is...
Metallica ~ No Leaf Clover

"Says it feels right this time
Turned it 'round and found the right line
Good day to be alive Sir
Good day to be alive, he said.....
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Is just a freight train coming your way"

Joe's #5

We are half my through our 25th top ten! Let's head back to California, I'm beginning to notice a trend here. This singer/ songwriter is a two time Grammy winner who plays an eclectic mix of blues, folksoulreggae and rock music. For this next song he collaborated with The Blind Boys of Alabama, off of the 1997 album Will to Live...

Joe's number 5 song is...
Ben Harper ~ I Will Not Walk Alone

"Battered and torn
still I can see the light
tattered and worn
but I must kneel to fight

Friend of mine
what can't you spare
I know some times
it gets cold in there

When my legs no longer carry
and the warm wind chills my bones
I reach for Mother Mary
and I shall not walk alone"

Joe's #6

New let's head back to Virginia, this time to Williamsburg.  This Alternative rock band formed in 1992 when Jason Ross and Jason Pollock met while attending The College of William & Mary.  They actually got their name from watching the TV show CHiPs.  Off of their 1997 album RockCrown....

Joe's number 6 song is...
Seven Mary Three ~ Lucky

"And if I stay Lucky then my tongue will stay tied, and I won't betray the things that I hide.
There's not enough years underneath this belt, for me to admit the way that I felt.
Mean Mr. Mustard says don't be the wave that crashes
From a sea of discontent, he says he's wrestled with that blanket...
It leaves you cold and wet any way you stretch it
Divine apathy! Disease of my youth
watch that you don't catch it."

Joe's #7

I think it's time to head to Ireland, where we will find this next artist.  his musical career as a member of the 1990s rock group Juniper. After leaving the band he worked as a farmer in Tuscany and busked throughout Europe before returning to Ireland in 2001 and beginning a solo musical career. Off of his 2002 album O...

Joe's number 7 song is...
Damien Rice ~ Volcano

"What I am to you is not real
What I am to you you do not need
What I am to you is not what you mean to me
You give me miles and miles of mountains
And I'll ask for the sea"

Joe's #8

Let's head to Charlottesville, Virginia, where this next band was formed.  This band is making their 5th appearance in a top ten, with their 5th different song! Making them and The Beatles the most played artist on this blog!  An interesting fact about his next band is that they sold more tickets than any act from 2000-2010.  Off of their 2003 Live album The Central Park Concert...

Joe's number 8 song is...
Dave Matthews Band ~ Two Step
Settle in this song is almost 20 minutes long!

"Celebrate we will
Because life is short but sweet for
certain
We're climbing two by two
To be sure these days continue
These things we cannot change"

Joe's #9

Even though the Olympics are over, let's head across the pond to England.  This is where we will find our next artist.  I'm trying to figure out what I can say about this artist that won't give away who it is right away. The only thing I can say is that he  is one of only three recording artists (along with Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson) who have sold over 100 million albums worldwide both as solo artists and (separately) as principal members of a band.  Off of his 1981 album Face Value...

Joe's number 9 song is...
Phil Collins ~ In The Air Tonight

"Well if you told me you were drowning
I would not lend a hand
I've seen your face before, my friend
But I don't know if you know who I am?
Well I was there and I saw what you did
I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off that grin
Know where you've been
It's all been a pack of lies

And I can feel it comin' in the air tonight, oh Lord
I've been waitin' for this moment, all my life, oh Lord
I can feel it, in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord
And I've been waitin' for this moment all of my life, oh Lord
Oh Lord"

Well everyone, after a wonderful  one year anniversary celebration, let's get back to business.  Okay not totally, we do have another reason to celebrate. because  my good friend Joe has the honor of being the TTMB's 25th top ten!  Let's head down to Georgia, (no we're not looking for a soul to steal) this is where we'll find this next artist.  He's a singer/ songwriter, who won it all on the eleventh season of American Idol.  Off of his upcoming yet to be named album, that should be out later this year...

Joe's number 10 song is...
 Phillip Phillips ~ Home
"Hold on, to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave is stringing us along
Just know you’re not alone
Cause i’m going to make this place your home"

As they watch us fall from the sky to the ground to the see Woe is me, woe is me, no one will save you now We can only look away (away!) We'll not be victims there'll be no victims of to speak And only then will we be free And up will rise the meek And when we fall we will fall together No one will catch us so we'll catch ourselves And where we roam we will roam forever No one will understand what we meant" Keep an eye out for some special stuff this week!

Pete's #3

From Jamaica back to LA. This is where we'll find this legendary punk band. They are considered to be one of the most successful independent punk bands of all time, selling over 5 million albums. Off if their 1989 album "No Control"... Pete's number 3 song is... Bad Religion ~ Henchmen
" Stranded In a life in which your struggle for acceptance Is a never-ending chore, Upbraided For your actions past and present and rewarded for the ideas Of the future's bright open door. The henchman Is the human analogue of the suffering multitudes Who like good dogs sit and lick for their reward. So what good advice have I got for you To insure against your likely metamorphosis into this reprobate? Don't be a henchman, Stand on your laurels, Do what no one else does and praise the good of other men For good man's sake. And when everyone else in the world follows your lead (Although a cold day in hell it will surely be) That's when the entire world shall live in harmony."

Pete's #4

Let's head the the Caribbean, I think Jamaica sounds great about now. That where we would have found this last artist. If that wasn't a huge hint, off if his 1973 album "Catch a Fire" Pete's number 4 song is... Bob Marley ~ Concrete Jungle
" No sun will shine in my day today; (no sun will shine) The high yellow moon won't come out to play: (that high yellow moon won't come out to play) I said (darkness) darkness has covered my light, (and the stage) And the stage my day into night, yeah. Where is the love to be found? (oo-ooh-ooh) Won't someone tell me? 'Cause my (sweet life) life must be somewhere to be found -(must be somewhere for me) Instead of concrete jungle (la la-la!), Where the living is harder (la-la!)."

Pete's #5

I guess we're going to stay in sunny California. Where we'll find this hard rock band. Some think the this is a concept album, like you're driving from LA to Joshua tree listing to the different radio stations. A fun fact about the this band is on the album this song is on, the amazing Dave Grohl was their guest drummer. Off of their 2002 album "Songs for the Deaf" Pete's number 5 song is .. Queens Of The Stone Age ~ A Song for the Dead
" It's late enough to go drivin And see what's mine That's a study of dying How to do it right You're a holy roller Get your bed in the loose If you're hanging around I'm holdin the noose Come a little bit closer And get on tight In a hurse rollin over Just a track in the line Fuck it Come on, let's go drivin Come on, let's take a little ride That's the study of dying How to do it right"
