Colin's #3

Time to travel across the country from Vegas to Boston! Where we will find alternative rock band. They are often recognized for its choice of instruments during their earlier years: two members playing acoustic guitars and one member playing various percussion instruments. Brian Rosenworcel, the band's percussionist (affectionately dubbed the Thundergod by fans), added to their unique sound with a combination of bongoscymbals, and other drums, playing live shows using only his bare hands. While Miller played rhythm parts, Gardner would often play a bass line on his guitar. Their sound is recognized for its vocal harmonies, with both Miller and Gardner singing lead vocals on different songs; in songs such as "What You Wish For" and this next song the two members sing different lyrics simultaneously.  Off of their 1999 album "Lost And Gone Forever"....

Colin's number three song is...
Guster ~ Happier

"Say goodbye, lose your friends, make them go, don't need them around
Cause it's time, lose your friends, make them go, was never supposed to be like this
They were too weak, too prone to break
Their needs too deep, their skin too thin
By now you took what was to take
Tear it apart and start again
So go on, if this will make you happier
It got you this far, did what you had to
You've wasted every moment of your Saturdays and your Sundays
You're wasted from the boredom, was never supposed to be like this
Like your father said, just do what was done unto you..always
In your father's steps you'll do what was done unto you
It won't be hard to start again
So go on, if this will make you happier
It got you this far, do what you have to
(Well you knew this would come)
And you're gone now
(And you've left me all alone)
And did it make you happier?
(And you're lost and long gone, don't take it so seriously)
It wasn't that hard
(Go on and get goin, I'm fine on my own)
Did what you had to
(We got you this far, finally got it figured out)"

Viva Las Vegas! This is where we will this next alternative rock band.   The song features an extended refrain of "I got soul, but I'm not a soldier", a phrase now associated with both the song and the band as a whole. In October 2011, NME placed it at number 56 on its list "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years" Off of their 2004 incredible debut album "Hot Fuss"...
Colin's number four song is...

The Killers ~ All These Things I've Done

Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the back burner
You know you got to help me out
You're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down

[x10]
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier

Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the back burner
You know you got to help me out
You're gonna bring yourself down
You're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the back burner
You're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down"

Colin's #5

For the first time we are headed to Haiti, where we will find this rapper/singer-songwriter. An interesting fact about this artist is that on August 5, 2010, he filed for candidacy in the 2010 Haitian presidential election, although the Electoral Commission subsequently ruled him ineligible to stand as he had not met the requirement to have been resident in Haiti for five years.  Off of his 1997 album The Carnival...

Colin's number five song is...
Wyclef Jean ~ Gone Till November

"Every time i make a run, girl you turn around and cry, i ask myself why
Oh why, see you must understand i can't work a 9 to 5, so I'll be gone til
November, said I'll be gone till November I'll be gone till November, you
Tell my girl yo i be gone till November, I'll be gone till November ill
Be gone til November, you tell my girl yo I'll be gone till November,
January, February, March, April, May, i see you cryin but girl i cant
Stay I'll be gone till November, I'll be gone till November... and give a
Kiss to my motha.. "

Colin's #6

We are finally leaving Europe, and we are now headed to the city of angels, LA.  This is where we will find this alternative rock band.   In 2008, Rolling Stone ranked this song #72 on "The 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time." Pitchfork Media included the song at number 10 on their Top 200 Tracks of the '90s. This is "nerd rock" at its finest, off of their self-titled 1994 debut album, Colin's number six song is...

Weezer ~ Say It Ain't So

"Oh, yeah
Alright

Somebody's Heine' is crowdin' my icebox
Somebody's cold one is givin' me chills
Guess I'll just close my eyes
Oh yeah, all right, feels good inside

Flip on the tele'
Wrestle with Jimmy
Something is bubbling behind my back
The bottle is ready to blow

Say it ain't so
Your drug is a heart-breaker
Say it ain't so
My love is a life-taker"

Colin's #7

Staying in Europe, let's head to Versailles, France, where we will find this alternative rock band.  The album that this song is from The album name plays off of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, using his first and middle name and replacing his last with the band's name. Thomas Mars says, “The album title is almost like a childish thing, like you’re unleashing a child into the museum and he draws a mustache on the Mona Lisa or something ... It’s kind of bratty, especially with me, my mom is German and Mozart is Austrian and in Germany it’s like messing with the Pope or something.  Off of their 2009 album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, Colin's number seven song is...

Phoenix ~ Rome

"It ain’t easy to ignore
When your shutters are open all the way
When it’s candlelight I see I go insane
Distant silhouette somehow
We shared a cigarette somewhere
Addict till it falls, falls, falls

Rome Rome Rome Rome
Focus looking forward the Colosseum
Oh no! what did I say? what can I say?
Rome Rome many tears have fallen here
I’ll be driving, you look the other way"

Colin's #8

I guess we are staying in England, where we will find this legendary band,  This band is making their Tenth appearance in a top ten! What else can I say about the boys from Liverpool. Off of their 1965 album Rubber Soul... Colin's number eight song is...

The Beatles ~ You Won't See Me

"Though the days are few
They're filled with tears
And since I lost you
It feels like years
Yes, it seems so long
Girl, since you've been gone
And I just can't go on
If you won't see me (You won't see me)
You won't see me (You won't see me)

Time after time
You refuse to even listen
I wouldn't mind
If I knew what I was missing

Though the days are few
They're filled with tears
And since I lost you
It feels like years
Yes, it seems so long
Girl, since you've been gone
And I just can't go on
If you won't see me (You won't see me)
You won't see me (You won't see me)"

Colin's #9

Our next artist is a British singer-songwriter and guitarist from LeedsWest Yorkshire. Bailey Rae was named the number-one predicted breakthrough act of 2006 in an annual BBC poll of music critics,Sound of 2006. She released her debut album, in February 2006, and became the fourth female British act in history to have her first album debut at number one. Off of her self titled debut album released in 2007, Colin's number nine song is...

Corinne Bailey Rae ~ Like A Star

"I wonder why it is,
I don't argue like this,
With anyone but you,
I wonder why it is,
I wont let my guard down,
For anyone but you
We do it all the time,
Blowing out my mind,

Just like a star across my sky,
Just like an angel off the page,
You have appeared to my life,
Feel like I'll never be the same,
Just like a song in my heart,
Just like oil on my hands"

Colin's #10

Let get back to what this blog was stated for, here is another top ten song list! This one is my friend Colin!  Let us head to England, where we will find this indie rock band.  A fun fact about the album this song is from
One member wrote the title track the same morning he wrote Blackbird off his solo album Shapes and shadows, and was quoted saying "was quite a productive morning, I wish all hangovers were like that".  Off of their 2006 album How We Operate,
Colin's number ten song is...

Gomez ~ Girlshapedlovedrug

"My feelings for the girl
how could I be with out her?
I would surely still find

The Girlshapedlovedrug
messes with my mind
Don't ask me why,
the Girlshapedlovedrug
messes with my mind
Don't ask me why,
the Girlshapedlovedrug
messes with your mind
Don't ask me why,
the Girlshapedlovedrug
messes with my mind"
